How to find the hardware address in Windows XP
| Before a Virginia Tech will allow a computer to access the internet the Hardware Address must be registered with the Network Liaison. To do this please follow the directions below. | ||||||||||||

| First you need to go to the "Command Prompt" The location of this depends on the way you have your start menu configured. The first picture is the new Windows XP style. The second is the Windows XP "Classic" style |

| At the C: prompt type: ipconfig /all and hit the Enter key. This will bring up a bunch of information about you internet setup. What we are looking for in this list is the "Physical Address" of the "Ethernet adapter." This is a set of 12 numbers and letters with every two separated by a dash. This is the number that you need to report to Jane (1-1741). You can see an example below. | ||||||||||||
