How do I run LiveUpdate in Symantec AntiVirus 9/10 Corporate Edition for Windows?

Important:

  • 4Help highly recommends that you install the latest version of Symantec AntiVirus. A Symantec AntiVirus download is available at no charge for current Virginia Tech students, faculty, staff, and retirees only from the Symantec AntiVirus Downloads page (http://antivirus.vt.edu/download/).

  • In order to run LiveUpdate, you must log on with an account with computer administrator privileges or power user privileges.

To run LiveUpdate, do the following:

  1. Start Symantec AntiVirus.
    • In Windows XP: from the Start menu, select All Programs, select Symantec Client Security, and then select Symantec Antivirus.
    • In Windows 2000: from the Start menu, select Programs, select Symantec Client Security, and then select Symantec Antivirus.
  2. Under Virus Definition File, click the LiveUpdate button.
  3. Click the Next button. LiveUpdate will now search for and download any available updates.
  4. Complete the LiveUpdate.
    • If LiveUpdate finds updates:
      1. LiveUpdate will automatically download the new files. When the download is complete, click the Finish button.
      2. Wait while LiveUpdate installs the new updates.
    • If LiveUpdate finds no updates are needed, click the Finish button.
  5. Click the Exit button.
