Transferring Bookmarks

Transferring bookmarks from IE to Safari  (MAC)

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Go to the Bookmarks menu and select Show All Bookmarks.  Safari has a folder under its Bookmarks by default called “Imported IE Favorites.”  This is set when Safari starts up for the first time.  You need to reset the Safari preferences to rescan the current IE favorites into the Safari Bookmarks.
  3. Quit Safari.
  4. Go to your Mac’s hard drive, open the Users folder, open your user directory, open the Library folder, then open the Preferences folder.  Find the file named “com.apple.Safari.plist” and double-click it to open it.  The Property List Editor will launch.
  5. In the new window, click the triangle next to Root to expand the subcategories.
  6. Scroll down until you find the heading “IEFavoritesWereImported.”  Change its value from Yes to No by clicking on the “Yes” command.
  7. Go to the File menu and click Save.
  8. Quit the Property List Editor.
  9. Restart Safari.
  10. Go to the Bookmarks menu and select Show All Bookmarks.
  11. Click on the Imported IE Favorites folder at the left.  You should now see the current Internet Explorer Favorites listed.
  12. Quit Safari.

 


Transferring bookmarks from Safari to IE  (ON MAC)

  1. Make sure Internet Explorer is not running when you perform this transfer.  NOTE: this procedure WILL NOT ADD bookmarks, but instead will JUST REPLACE them.  If you have IE Favorites you want to keep, you must export those first and add them after this procedure.
  2. Start the Safari Bookmark Exporter app.
  3. Click the Analyze Bookmarks button.  Your export options should become enabled.
  4. Check the Internet Explorer option.
  5. Click the Export Bookmarks… button.
  6. In the Save dialog box that pops up, make sure the name of the file you are exporting is “Favorites.html” and it is being saved to the following default location: (the current user’s directory)/Library/Preferences/Explorer.
  7. Click Save.  When prompted, click Replace.
  8. Quit the Safari Bookmark Exporter app.
  9. Open Internet Explorer.
  10. Go to the Favorites menu to verify the transfer.  You can also verify the transfer by selecting Organize Favorites in the Favorites Menu.
  11. Close Internet Explorer.

 

Transferring bookmarks from Safari to Firefox (ON MAC)

  1. Make sure Firefox is not running when you perform this transfer.
  2. Start the Safari Bookmark Exporter app.
  3. Click the Analyze Bookmarks button.  Your export options should become enabled.
  4. Check the Firefox/Firebird/Pheonix option.
  5. Click the Export Bookmarks… button.
  6. In the Save dialog box that pops up, give the html file a name and save it to the desktop.
  7. Quit the Safari Bookmark Exporter app.
  8. Open Firefox.
  9. Go to the Bookmarks menu and select Manage Bookmarks…
  10. When the Bookmarks Manager pops up, go to the File menu and select Import.  The import Wizard will drop down.
  11. Select “from file” and click the Next button.
  12. In the Open dialog box, choose the html file created in Step 6 on the desktop.
  13. Click Open.
  14. Double-check the Bookmark Manager window and the different menus to verify the transfer.
  15. Close Firefox.  Trash the html file from the desktop.

 


Transferring bookmarks from IE to Firefox (ON MAC)

  1. Open IE
  2. Click on the Apple &  J Keys
  3. Go to File, export favorites
  4. change extension to xml, click  save
  5. Open Firefox,
  6. Go to Bbookmarks, manage bookmarks
  7. Go to File, import choose from file, next and choose file next
  8. Finish
