Hokie Mart Support in IE8

 

In late March, Microsoft released its latest internet browser, Internet Explorer 8.  This browser incorporates new security features that are not yet compatible with HokieMart.  As a result of this incompatibility, HokieMart users that have adopted this version of the browser have reported errors when processing purchase orders, especially with Punch-out suppliers.  It is not anticipated that HokieMart will be fully compatible with this version of Internet Explorer until the end of July. 
Therefore, it is our recommendation that HokieMart be accessed exclusively by one of the following internet browsers:
*         Internet Explorer (versions 6 & 7)
*         Mozilla Firefox (version 1.5 or higher)
 
If Internet Explorer 8 is the only accessible internet browser, please refer to the following document:   http://www.purch.vt.edu/HokieMart/HokieMart_IE8_Configuration.pdf.  These instructions provide configuration changes that should limit the issues with HokieMart purchase orders.

On July 26, Tech installed the latest version of HokieMart that advertises support for IE 8.  Initially, we had issues with cross-site scripting for purchasing from two vendors (Daly and Invitrogen) which have since been resolved. 

Now the only known issue between HokieMart and IE 8 involves accessing a few punchout vendors that have both secure and unsecure content on their web pages.  This situation causes a warning message to appear that the user has to click through.  These webpages are proprietary to the vendors themselves.  We have notified the vendors requesting that they fix the sites which is about all we can do to address this.
