When backing up faculty/staff's Eudora email it is very important that we have the correct folder. The University does keep backups for about three weeks, but they are only used for emergencies such as mail server fails, not for user errors.
The main files that are needed from Eudora are the following:
- Eudora.ini (PC) Eudora Settings (Mac) - stores all the settings for Eudora
- Nndbase.txt (PC) Eudora Nicknames (Mac) - stores all the nicknames for Eudora
- Rcpdbase.txt (PC) Eudora Recipients (Mac) - stores the recipient list for Eudora
- Filters.pce (PC) Eudora Filters (Mac) - stores all the mail filters created in Eudora
- *.mbx (PC) Just mailbox name (Mac)- the mail box files that have all the email messages in them
- *.toc (PC) - the table of contents file that goes along with the mbx file
- *.fol (PC) Just the Folder Name (Mac) - a mailbox folder that contains mail boxes
- sigs folder (PC) Signature Folder (Mac) - contains the users signatures (*.txt)
Step one:
Find out where Eudora is and how many copies are on the computer. To do this, search the computer for the word "Eudora." On a PC use the Search for Files or Folders command located under the Start menu and on a Mac use the Find command located under File in the Finder. Look through the results to find out how many Eudora folders are actually on the computer. Over time many faculty/staff computers have had Eudora upgraded and they have anywhere from one Eudora folder to three or four.
The older versions of Eudora for the PC were stored in a Eudora folder in the Program Files folder. Now the Eudora folder is stored another level in, under the Qualcomm folder which is located inside the Program Files folder. However always keep in mind that people can do a custom install and put Eudora anywhere they want.
